Does CSA really harm kids?

While each victim may experience abuse differently it is generally accepted that it causes lifelong psychological harm akin to a brain injury. It may also see physical injuries. The trauma of sexual abuse is associated in later life with conditions such as:

  • Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
  • Complex PTSD
  • Emotional dysregulation
  • Relationship difficulties
  • Addictions
  • Sexual difficulties
  • Self-harming behaviours including suicide
  • Criminalisation

Sexual Assault Support Services like Laurel House assist victim-survivors, with early intervention highly desirable.  If you or someone you know needs support please contact your nearest provider.
