Put on your thinking cap Tasmania! I am often dismayed to see that Tasmanian institutions are not drawing on the research evidence when developing their strategies to implement the recommendations of the Tasmania Commission of Inquiry.
The published research literature along with ‘grey’ literature, when supplemented by the lived experience of victim-survivors, will best place policy specialists and Executives in a position to implement recommendations in a way that will gain traction and make for lasting change.
- Literature reviews are essential to inform strategy
- The lived-experience of victim-survivors must inform the implementation strategy
- The intended outcomes must be clearly articulated -think SMART
- Data sets must be specified and collected to allow robust independent evaluation.
Key takeaways?
- Draw on the evidence!
- COI recommendations must be used to leverage cultural change. They are not an end in themselves.
- The intended outcome is measurable improvements to child safeguarding across the State.
